The Gospel of the Nativity of Mary follows Joachim and Anna, Mary’s childhood, her betrothal to Joseph, and the announcement of Jesus’ birth. This Latin Christian work is generally placed in the ninth or tenth century and adapts earlier infancy traditions. It shows how medieval readers expanded the family stories surrounding the Gospels and expressed devotion to Mary.
