5/11 · Psalms of Solomon
The eighteen Psalms of Solomon come from Jewish life in the first century BCE, with several poems reflecting the upheaval of Roman intervention in Jerusalem. They move between confession, anger at corrupt leadership, trust in divine justice, and hope for a righteous ruler descended from David. Psalm 17 is especially useful for exploring ancient messianic expectations. G. Buchanan Gray’s 1913 translation is now on Spirit Nation, with the surviving text’s gaps and uncertainties retained.
