8/11 · Ascension of Isaiah
The Ascension of Isaiah joins an account of the prophet’s martyrdom with a journey through seven heavens and a vision of the Beloved’s descent into the world. Its Jewish and Christian traditions developed in stages, with major portions commonly placed in the first and second centuries CE. The result moves between earthly persecution and heavenly revelation. Spirit Nation has Charles’s complete eleven-chapter English translation from 1900, including the source’s marked uncertainties and differing readings.
