I've been spending a bit of time now on X-Men. I'm going to have to take a break soon because I've read a lot in the last week, more than I usually do. I'm only skipping around the series but I've been really locked in on X-Men because I'm trying to get through the Claremont era. I'm just now getting into the thick of the Wolverine stuff: Blood and Claws, Weapon X. Not long after that I want to be hitting the Alan Moore Saga, which is the last major storyline and the end of an era.
Days of Future Present tied together a bunch of timelines from Days of Future Past. It closed out a lot of gaps, cleaned up a lot of timelines, and pulled a lot of things together, especially with Rachel. Extinction Agenda really stirred things up: the first time that all three teams were back together, doing something together on this long overarching plot. They're bringing Wolverine to the forefront to get ready for his Weapon X origin, at least the first time it's presented in Marvel Comics Presents as a secondary storyline.
In Murrow and Saga I'm looking forward to seeing 30 years' worth of Claremont threads finally getting pulled and tied together. I know that there were a lot of things he left on the table because they didn't give him enough time to finish up all the storylines. I've been carrying a lot of empty plot threads in my head for 30 years' worth of comic reading, which I've done in the last year. It's not because I'm slow at reading; it's because I read a lot of other series along with it. I've got a huge list of stuff I've been reading as well.
My point is it's going to be good to finally see 30 years' worth of payoff, production payoff, publication payoff for Claremont because he's been writing. In the 1960s it was Stan Lee and a few others. When Claremont took over he was writing for almost 30 years. This is going to be tying up threads and loose ends that he's had going because he's a long-form writer. A lot of writers don't do that but the way he writes, it takes a long time of him writing to really see plot payoff. He specializes in really long plot lines.
It's going to be cool seeing a lot of the stuff that I've watched kind of grow. I don't know exactly what happens in the New Island saga because this is my first time fully reading it, which I'm looking forward to. I do know it ties a lot of threads together, pulls a lot of things together, and starts reshaping the foundation for the next 10 years. When they split the X-Men into two different colored teams and different things happen with these other teams, it shakes the foundation up, getting everything ready for what's about to happen. It pulls a lot of loose ends together. I'm really looking forward to seeing how that goes.
