I write quite a bit of science fiction, and Space Angel is one of my short stories. This passage follows a pilot who has been stranded in hyperspace for years. Something has finally pulled his ship out. EXCERPT My ship started functioning normally for the first time since my unfortunate event. The lights on my radar blared as it registered something behind my ship. I looked in my viewport and saw something white in the corner of it. My ship turned slowly until the tip of the celestial object came into view. It formed into a white feather. It hooked to a long wing, side by side with rows of other feathers. It unfurled in front of me with a sparkling array of colors dancing against the backwash of an otherwise darkened spacial sea of blackness. Each movement caused my ship to rock aggressively, jolting my entire body. My mouth refused to close. I switched a few buttons on my panel to scan the creature while my ship continued to turn. As everything came into full view, the wing hooked into the back of a humanoid creature, staring directly at me. The wings protruded from the shoulder blades, and it glowed with a blinding white hue. Return. The word burned into my heart but somehow soothed my entire being. A deep feeling of peace washed over me, and I felt the creature’s presence inside my own mind, digging around for something.
