Here’s a passage from my short story Heartbeat. John Anthony Tyler is aboard the Tanzini when he notices a rhythm in the ocean that the people around him don’t seem to notice. EXCERPT As he was writing, something shifted under his feet. The ocean itself stirred within his soul, a rhythm he couldn’t explain… he just knew. With his curiosity piqued, he stepped out onto the deck. The crew of the Tanzini was busy scurrying about with their regular duties as he walked past them and peered out into the ocean. He could see the patterns in the water as it pulsated and glowed. “Jim,” John called for one of his shipmates. “Come stand right here.” Jim shuffled over and stood beside him, looking out into the water. “Wait a moment,” John said. “And let me know if you notice anything.” A couple of minutes passed, and the feeling washed over him again as the water glowed. “Did you see that?” John asked. Jim shook his head. “Have you been drinking again?” John smiled. “Perhaps you are too plebeian. You may know everything there is to know about rigging, running, and ships, but you know nothing about the ocean herself. I swear to you she’s speaking to me in her own way.” Read Heartbeat on Amazon: https://t.co/85XPJrLNrP
