A short excerpt from Blood Mage: Prophecy. John has brought home an old collection of antiques, including a book with an eye. Here, he begins to realize it can speak to him.
EXCERPT
--I have been waiting for you.-- The voice reverberated throughout his mind.
John stood there a minute, staring at the eye looking back at him.
--'Hello’ would be an excellent place to start.-- The voice transitioned from deep, terrifying, and overlapping to feminine tones.
Almost soothing in a way.
"Y-you talk?" John gasped. His heart and head pounded as his breathing overwhelmed him. “I must be hallucinating.” He shook his head.
The voice echoed around him again. --Yes, I speak. But only you can hear me, by my choice. Come and sit, let us converse.--
John swallowed and did as the book told him. He walked over, pulled the chair close, and sat several feet away.
–-Do not be afraid. I mean, you no harm.--
John hesitated. Eventually, he stood up and stepped closer until he was standing directly in front of the book. "W-w-what did you want to talk about?" he managed to say as his shaking subsided.
--I’ve been waiting for you. My name is Kassandra, named after the Greek prophetess.-- Kassandra closed and reopened her eye, refocusing on John again.
