The current game that I'm putting the most time into started off as a very basic experiment as I was trying to learn to handle 3D modeling, characters, rigging, and everything else: just learning how everything works and learning how the technology works a little bit more.
Then I started building out a game and the idea started to flow so I started building out a set of characters and animations for sitting down and standing up, and then started to work on the game world. In general I put a lot of time into what I've got now.
The idea started flowing and what ended up coming together was the idea for a game called Otherworld, which is like a de facto life simulator that has the underpinnings of something that I plan on being much deeper than that. Imagine in its mature form. There's still a long way to go. I'm currently working on it.
First let me explain what you can envision, then I'll explain what I'm working on now. The goal is eventually you start off as a girl or a guy, each with their own backstory. As you play through the game you unlock the story a little bit at a time until you get to a point where you can upgrade your house. You can pay to upgrade your house, add more floors, and buy more property.
Eventually at the end of the first story arc, you're greeted with a letter in the mail that says a relative passed away and left you with a strange device and for you to come to the city of Northgate (I think that's what I'm going to call it) to collect the artifact, or the technology. You travel to Northgate and it ends with that being the continuation. It says "to be continued" and you can still play the game even after that because it's meant to be a life sim at its core.
In the second story arc you travel to Northgate, where I'll be building out a full city. Right now I got a town and some stuff in the country but eventually I'll have the full city. When you get to Northgate you drive this really long country road until you eventually get to Northgate. When you get to Northgate you enter into a big city with a lot of skyscrapers. You work your way to a building where you end up going into a lawyer's office and eventually getting access to this device that they installed in your house.
Then what happens after that is where the true idea of the game will start to take form. It'll probably be later on because there's a lot to build up until you get to that point but it basically worked like this...
