Throughout my entire career I've had to use either DocuSign or EchoSign and pay for an account to be able to sign documents. Anytime I didn't have an account, if I tried to find something for free, it would always run me through this loop where I would upload a document, fill it out, sign it, and at the very end it would demand payment of some kind before I could download it.
I was thinking about that today and I decided that I wanted to build out something that solved that problem forever. I have no doubt that there are other options already out there and available but I wanted to give my own spin on it.
What I'm building is a new lab, or I'm in the middle of building a new lab that I'll be launching today or over the weekend. Somebody can come to my website (it'll be https://t.co/6n2clZGBuX). It'll be another one of my labs called Document Forge. People can come to the website, upload a PDF file, fill it out directly in the browser, sign it with a digital signature, and then download and save it. Afterwards they could click a button to clear it so it's not even saved on my server.
What will happen is that anybody that doesn't clear anything at 12:00 midnight every night, it goes through and makes sure that everything's cleared. Whatever isn't, there is no data saved and no data is used for any other purpose. It'll be simple and to the point: they come to the website, they fill out the document, they sign it, they download it, and they're done.
Later on down the road I may monetize it. I may build an account behind it and build the ability for them to have a whole document management system and set it up so they can pay for premium features later and have extra features that they can use that are premium; or I may monetize it in other ways. I have no idea what direction I'm going to take with that but the core premise is always going to be free: upload a file, fill out the file, sign the file, and download it. That'll always remain free even if I monetize other things around it in the background. I'm going to be launching that in the next few days.
