I've not been getting anywhere near as much writing done lately as I want to and I'm going to fix that this week. I just took a long break from it because I was dealing with a lot of personal stuff and dealing with a lot of trying to get this whole serial entrepreneur (or whatever you want to call it, framework, landscape, ecosystem might be a better word). I'm just trying to build myself into being a serial entrepreneur, which I should have done many years ago when I first started developing, because now I wouldn't have to rely on client work.
Anyway that's beside the point. I should have been writing for the last month or two but I took a long break because I was having trouble concentrating. I'm just getting back into it today.
At the moment I'm working on one of my short stories that I'm editing. It's about a guy named Adrian who is a gamer. He's got a single mother. He's about to start looking for work because they're having financial issues. He runs into this so he's home alone and his mom's not there. He has this strange thumping sound as he's going upstairs back into his room to get ready for a 7-hour gaming session. All of a sudden the thumping scares the shit out of him.
After some investigating he finally finds himself downstairs. He ends up in a situation where he sees this weird creature staring at him that vanishes in a puff of smoke so he thinks he's imagining things. He sees an old furnace in the garage. That furnace ends up being burnt small logs, super small. He sees a little old cross in there with weird symbols on it and then he ends up saying, "Whatever. I guess Mom bought this at a yard sale or something."
He goes back upstairs to play games and then weird shit starts to happen. To cut it short, later on he finds out that when he goes back out downstairs to look at it again, he notices that the cross he put back in there originally has now duplicated so it's like two crosses. He starts experimenting. Long story short he finds out that he's able to put things into the duplicator, which will then duplicate it. He starts going on this long duplicating rampage and it becomes this long drawn-out thing. Eventually he realizes that things aren't what they seem and it was a horrible mistake to ever start messing with the Fertis in the first place.
I'm not going to spoil the rest in case someone ever does decide to read it but that's what I'm working on now. It's a short story about 2,200 words. I wrote it about 2 weeks ago. I write a lot. I write full time. I'm not going to publish it for a little bit. I'm going to get to the third or fourth because this one still needs a lot of work. I'm going to fix a lot of issues on this pass but probably not all of them so there'll be a third pass later. It's a fun project and I had fun writing it originally so I'm just experimenting a little bit.
