Game Series I’ve Beaten: A Deep Dive – Mass Effect

Mass Effect is one of my all-time favorite series. There’s just nothing else quite like it. The combination of deep storytelling, player choice, and world-building makes it one of the best sci-fi RPGs ever made. Commander Shepard is hands down one of the most iconic protagonists in gaming, and the way you get to shape their personalities, decisions, and relationships across the trilogy is what makes this series stand out.

One of my favorite things about Mass Effect is the crew interactions. The Normandy feels like home because of the squadmates you recruit along the way. Garrus, Tali, Liara, Wrex—every character is so well-written, and they all have their own arcs that evolve throughout the series. And let’s not forget the Paragon/Renegade system—whether you’re playing the noble hero or the ruthless badass, the choices you make actually matter and shape the world around you.

Here’s the list of Mass Effect games I’ve beaten:

Mass Effect

Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 3

Mass Effect: Andromeda

I loved the original trilogy. Mass Effect 2 is probably my favorite—it had the best pacing, the best squad, and that Suicide Mission was one of the most intense finales in gaming. Mass Effect 3 was great too, even if the ending got a ton of backlash. Andromeda, on the other hand… I had mixed feelings about it. I was a little turned off that it was a completely different story with no Shepard, but over time, I came to appreciate what it was trying to do. It’s not on the same level as the original trilogy, but it had its moments, and I think it set up some cool possibilities for the future.

I also have my eyes heavily on the 4th one. It’s supposed to bring elements that combine both 1-3, and Andromeda together into something more cohesive. I’m looking forward to seeing what all they made the “cannon” decisions for the ending.
